About Earl
Yes, I absolutely go by "Earl" and I'm not your typical instructional technology specialist in that---I didn't take the "traditional" route into this career! I received a Bachelor of Arts dual degree in English and in Theatre from Truman State University. Then I developed a "master plan" to eventually get my professional teaching license while working in education during the day and pursuing creative interests during the evening. However, after actually working in public education, I naturally began to question the "plan"! Luckily, while managing an elementary computer lab it finally dawned on me how I could utilize both my love of education and creativity---technology.
I quickly realized technology use, like art, has the power to literally create something out of nothing with just a few keystrokes---a startling realization that encouraged me to seek out opportunities in instructional technology specifically. As a result, I completed my Master’s in Information Science and Learning Technologies degree with an emphasis in Educational Technology (K-12) and a Graduate Certificate in Online Learning through the University of Missouri in 2014. Through my Mizzou master’s work, I gained a solid background in instructional technology including but not limited to; K-12 technology integration and lesson planning, web design, adult learning theory, and non-profit training development.
As of Fall 2023, I hold an Illinois Professional Teaching license (Secondary: English), I'm a Certified Apple Learning Coach, and a Certified Google Educator (Level 2). As well, I am in the process of completing my Master of Arts in Teaching degree (National Louis University) while working full t-me in instructional technology. With my credentials, I hope to play a small part in equitably closing the digital divide by promoting lifelong digital literacy skills for all!
